Boy Scout Troop 37 is a youth run organization with adult mentoring. The troop is located in a rural area of Amherst County at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is chartered to Elon Presbyterian Church. Any boy between the ages of 11 and 17 years of age is welcome to join regardless of race, religion, or creed . Our program strives to achieve the Aims of Scouting: character development, citizenship training, and mental & personal fitness. We do this through the "Methods of Scouting" which include: the ideals (scout oath and law, motto & slogan), the patrol method, the outdoors, advancement, association with adults, personal growth, leadership development and the uniform. We meet every Tuesday night in the fellowship hall of Elon Presbyterian Church from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.
In August of 1997 with 8 youth the troop was reactivated. Currently we have twenty registered scouts. In the few short years the troop has been active, fourteen young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout and several scouts are Eagle candidates, whom will soon be working on service projects throughout their community.
The troop is in the Piedmont District of the Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boys Scouts of America. The Piedmont District serves the youth of Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell, Charlotte, Halifax, county, the city of Lynchburg, a part of Bedford, Nelson and Pittsylviana Counties in Virginia.
